United Planet reports that the number of nursing students and medical groups participating in the organization’s programs has tripled over the past year, with numbers continuing to grow. Currently hundreds of volunteers are placed in United Planet projects annually.
Theresa Higgs, Vice President of Global Operations at United Planet, comments, “Volunteering abroad continues to be a growing trend among students and professionals in the medical field. From nurses to pre-med students, to dentists and doctors, international service work offers so much more than just hands-on experience.” In addition to providing valuable support for communities in need, United Planet’s Volunteer & Internship Abroad programs combine volunteering, language learning, cultural activities, home stays, and excursions to provide a fully immersive and often life-changing experience for volunteers and interns.
Healthcare professionals and students are placed in a variety United Planet Healthcare projects, including HIV/AIDS awareness, outreach education and home-based care; dental care; patient care in pediatric hospitals and clinics; and psychological treatment for abused women and children.
