Royal Oak’s newest restaurant and bar, 212, opened two weeks ago just in time for warmer weather to hit.
Besides featuring a stylish décor in the dining room and lounge, and a one-of-a-kind copper bar top, 212 separates itself from the pack with its specialized menu. From original craft cocktails like the Gin & Jam, Grey Road 40, and the Delta 88 (those in the know order this original with a head nod or wink), to top-of-the-line entrées like the Pan Seared Great Lakes Walleye and Kona Coffee Crusted Strip Steak, 212 strives to feature ingredients locally sourced from Michigan in each menu item. General Manager Jenna Goudreau shares her inspiration for this choice:
“We wanted to provide our guests with a specialized menu made from fresh Michigan meats and produce and featuring Michigan wines, spirits, and craft beers. This isn’t just good for the environment, but also good for the Michigan economy, and has the added bonus of using top quality ingredients for the best possible taste.”
In addition to having a gourmet menu, 212’s interior reflects its posh ambitions. From sophisticated chandeliers to antique black and white murals of 1900s era Detroit, 212 strives for an elegance not typically associated with bars.
212 is looking to kick off its initial opening months with special events. The first special event was thrown on April 8 as a VIP opening party for the NCAA Final Championship game featuring Michigan vs. Louisville. Among the many attendees were Detroit Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland and Coach Gene Lamont. Next on deck is the inaugural Kentucky Derby Celebration, which will be held on May 4, followed by the VIP party and Grand Opening on May 7.
212 offers libations sourced from Michigan’s finest breweries, distilleries, and wineries, as well as your favorites from abroad. Each inventive cocktail is crafted with fresh ingredients prepared in-house for your sipping pleasure. 212 also offers guests a fresh and exciting dinner menu featuring fine dining finesse in an approachable and comfortable setting. Each menu item is created in-house from Michigan-based products to appease all pallets. Perfectly smoked meats, handmade pastas, house-made cheeses, and dry rubbed steaks are just a few of the mouth-watering selections. For those with special dietary needs, 212 offers both vegetarian and gluten-free options.
