Dion Agius claims a well-deserved bronze medal in Real Surf at X Games Foz do Iguacu with another typically artistic and creative short film that was shot in mainland Mexico.
New to the X Games, Real Surf is where eight of the world’s top surfers submit 90-second video parts for a shot at X Games gold. Other athletes who submitted edits include Kelly Slater, Julian Wilson, Gabriel Medina, Chippa Wilson, Matt Meola, Josh Kerr and Jordy Smith. While Voters choose the Fan Favorite online, a panel of respected surf industry judges ultimately decide which video parts win the medals.
Agius shot his 90-second masterpiece in Mexico bringing a group of close friends and a few girlfriends from LA along. Shooting yet another misty edit filled with huge punts, hacks, and hot girls, it is another trademark Agius and Joe G. twist on the traditional surf edit. No stranger to film awards, Agius’ bronze medal follows his widely acclaimed Electric Blue Heaven that won Short Film of the Year, Surfer Poll 2012.
Regarded as one of the most advanced aerial surfers in the sport, Agius continues to redefine the boundaries of modern surfing in and out of the water. With creative photo and film efforts with esteemed directors and friends like Joe G. and Kai Neville, Agius is evolving wave selection and execution. Whether it’s another film project or his own approach to surfing and taking it viral for the masses to experience it through their eyes, one thing is for sure – his videos are unique and inspire.
