A new report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers says that the top-paying degrees in terms of starting salaries are in engineering.
Job search website EngineeringCrossing.com has also been able to confirm the rising demand and salaries of engineers through its own data analysis. The site, which focuses only on engineering jobs has seen a steady increase in the number of job openings in the first quarter of this year. EngineeringCrossing.com has currently tracked down 171,000 job openings.
In the NACE report, seven of the top ten-paying degrees are in engineering. Petroleum engineering majors are able to command the highest salary, with starting salaries for them being $93,500. In the number two spot are computer engineers, who earn $71,700. The other engineering majors in the top ten list are chemical, aerospace, mechanical, electrical/electronic and communications and engineering technology. Computer science, MIS and finance were the only other three majors that made the list.

This is the largest category on the site in terms of job openings. In second place is the position of systems engineers with 9,609 openings and network engineer is in third place with 6,608 job openings.
