Runners, walkers and wheelers are invited to take part in Riverside Rehabilitation Institute’s 23rd annual 5k by the Bay on May 4.
The proceeds from this year’s race, set along the picturesque Chesapeake Bay, will benefit Riverside Rehabilitation Institute’s Giving Fund.
5k by the Bay registration begins at 8 a.m. A One-Mile Fun Run/Roll/Walk begins at 8:30 a.m., and the 5k Run/Wheel/Walk begins at 9 a.m., followed by an Awards Presentation at 10:30 a.m.
5k registration is $20 prior to April 20, $25 April 20-May 4 and $25 on race day. Participation in the One-Mile Fun Run/Roll/Walk is free ($10 to receive a t-shirt).
Racers can register in advance at active.com, riversideonline.com/rri or in person on the day of the race.
Early packet pick up will be available at Riverside Rehabilitation Institute, 245 Chesapeake Ave. in Newport News, Friday, May 3 from 12 to 7 p.m.

Racers will gain extra motivation from the beautiful race course beginning at the Petersen Yacht Basin on Walnut Avenue and ending at Riverside Rehabilitation Institute on scenic Chesapeake Avenue. In addition to the waterfront setting, racers and spectators will enjoy prizes, raffles and tasty post-race snacks.
The 5k is a Peninsula Track Club Grand Prix Event. Finish line results and race support will be provided by the Peninsula Track Club, and the 5k is also a Road Runners Club of America event. The well-prepared course includes a water stop and mile markers.
Awards will be given to the top runners in each age group and overall top three male and female runners, as well as top three male and female wheelchair finishers and top three male and female walkers. For more information, call (757) 928-8000 or visit riversideonline.com/rri.
