Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2013
The Croul Family Foundation issued a $20,000 grant to help THINK Together provide a comprehensive college readiness program that will include practical information about A-G course requirements, financial aid, and scholarships.
THINK Together, California’s fastest-growing nonprofit provider of extended learning time programs, will partner with Eureka Review to provide personalized tutoring, Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) preparation and American College Test (ACT) preparation.
Eureka Review collects students’ previous test scores, analyzes academic strengths and weaknesses and learns about the student's favorite teacher with a focus on what made that instructor stand out for the student.
Once scores or diagnostics have been analyzed and personality traits have been considered, Eureka partners a student with a tutor that will have the greatest affect on that student's scores, commitment level and academic growth.
The college readiness program will also include college field trips where students will learn what it is like to attend college.
Staff will host parent information sessions to help families embrace high school graduation and college enrollment as an attainable and necessary goal for their children.
Of those who will receive the benefits of the grant, more than 87% qualify for free and reduced lunch. For Century High students, 79% of their parents have not graduated from high school; nor have 72% of Valley High parents. There is clearly a culture of low expectations with regards to graduating from high school and enrolling in higher education. A college readiness program will help the community reverse this trend.
