Hingham MA (PRWEB) April 30, 2013

Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group of Massachusetts is celebrating Older Americans Month in May with two presentations for adult children whose parents are coping with memory related issues, including Alzheimer’s disease. Older Americans Month has been celebrated in the U.S. each year, since 1963. The month is dedicated to appreciating the contributions of older adults, according to the Administration on Aging, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Nationally recognized Alzheimer’s expert Jolene Brackey will be speaking to adult children and adult caregivers of individuals with memory care issues on May 8 at 5:15 PM at Allerton House Assisted Living in Hingham, MA and on May 9 at 5:30 PM at the Village at Proprietors Green in Marshfield, MA. Brackey takes program participants through a series of exercises designed to assist family caregivers in creating joyful moments when caring for a loved one with memory loss.

An estimated 5 million people age 65 and older have Alzheimer’s, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Last year more than 15 million family and friends provided care to these individuals. The Association estimates nearly 15 percent of these caregivers are providing the care long-distance –an hour or more away from their loved ones.
