I came away with a lot of insight into how to use tools, and I discovered a new approach to woodworking.

Bill Jordan of Provo, Utah, has $6,000 worth of new Festool tools in his shop, and he just returned from an expense-paid trip to the Henderson, Nevada, Festool Training Center near Las Vegas – all part of his $10,000 Festool Fantasy Camp Sweepstakes Grand Prize.
Woodcraft, co-sponsor of the sweepstakes, conducted a random drawing in November 2012 in which Jordan’s name was picked from the names of 26,034 total entries received. Two other entrants also received prizes. Jim Houston of Boca Raton, Florida, won second prize, a $250 Woodcraft Gift Card, and Kevin Epeneter of Portland, Oregon, won third place, a $100 Woodcraft Gift Card.
The Grand Prize tool package included a Kapex Sliding Compound Mitersaw, a Domino Joiner DF 500 Q Set T-Loc, a Router OF 1400 EQ T-Loc, an MFT/3 Multifunction Table, an RO 90 Sander, a CXS Cordless Drill Set and much more.
Jordan, a customer at Woodcraft of Salt Lake City, took his wife Regina on the April 22-23 trip for two.
“It was fabulous. I really enjoyed the time I spent with instructor Steve Bace at the Festool Training Center,” Jordan said. “I came away with a lot of insight into how to use tools, and I discovered a new approach to woodworking.” For example, Jordan said his exposure to a track saw showed him that he could put a straight edge on a long board without another step to finish the straightening process.
“I would encourage any woodworker to go and take these classes. I definitely would love to come back and learn more from Steve Bace,” Jordan said. “Using the Festool tools made me realize that quality makes a difference.”
A woodburning class in junior high school and industrial arts in high school started Jordan on a lifelong woodworking hobby. “There are niches I have found I like working with,” he said. “I really like woodburning, and working with found wood can give you pretty interesting pieces of wood for woodburning.” A log house, a pair of vanities made out of a log split in half, and boxes are among his other projects.
Jordan’s hobby also figures into his career as a recreational therapist working with patients in a mental health facility. “I teach woodburning. They take to it quite well. I want them to learn a hobby they can take home with them. To me that is huge.”
