The Morrison Family YMCA at Ballantyne will celebrate the life of Rachel Reynolds Giblin and raise funds for Y teen programs with its 4th Annual Battle of the Bands on Friday, May 17 in its Rachel Giblin Teen Center.
Giblin was tragically killed during a bike ride with her family to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis in 2006. Her friends at the Y, where she was a member, host the Rachel Giblin Battle of the Bands to keep her memory alive at to support the teen programs Rachel enjoyed. The event was created by teens from the Morrison Family YMCA Leaders Club.
The 4th Annual Rachel Giblin Battle of the Bands will feature up to 6 local high school in healthy competition. The bands represent several local Mecklenburg and Union County high schools including Ardrey Kell, South Mecklenburg and Sun Valley. Prizes will be awarded to the top three bands from sponsors including Sam Ash, Streetwise Music and Best Buy.
The Morrison Family YMCA is accepting band applications through Monday, May 13. Selected bands will perform a maximum 14 minute set with at least one original song.
The event begins at 8:30 p.m. with doors opening at 8:15 p.m. Refreshments will be available for sale. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 for members and $7 for the general public. All proceeds will benefit the Morrison Family YMCA Teen Programs that includes The Rachel Giblin Teen Center, teen events and tournaments, as well as teen clubs offered to the community.
