Playing cards and dominoes are great tools to reinforce math concepts while having lots of fun.

Playing card and domino games at home is both fun and rewarding. A playing card game called Snap Plus One introduces the child to a more efficient strategy for solving number problems. Instead of always beginning at one when counting, children will learn to count on from any given number. When solving number problems, the ability to count on is much more efficient than counting from one.
Materials needed are a deck of cards without any picture cards. The Ace refers to the number one in this game. Cards are dealt face down. Each player takes a turn to turn one card from their pile into the middle. The pile of cards is slapped when the card is one more than the previous card in the middle. When any player runs out of cards, the game is over. The player with the most cards is the winner.
Another cool math game can be played with dominoes and a deck of cards. This game reinforces number recognition and counting concepts. Depending on the age, choose among the many variations of the game listed on Kids Activities Blog. One game idea is matching domino numbers to card numbers. Another game idea is building fun domino towers according to the face value of the card.
