The historic State Theatre in Culpeper, Virginia launches a week-long Grand Opening Celebration beginning with Bruce Hornsby on May 4 at 8:00 p.m. and leading up to a Grand Opening Gala with Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group May 11 at 8:00 p.m.
A $9.3 million restoration was just completed on this 1938 art-deco treasure. The Theatre is listed on the National and State registers of Historic Places. It is a state-of-the-art entertainment and educational venue that will include:
- National touring artists and musicians
- Local and regional talent (theatre, dance, musical concerts)
- Film/cinema with 35mm, independent, documentary and foreign films
as well as highly anticipated film festivals in partnership with the Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation.

The State Theatre operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
It’s a multi-purpose performing arts center with lobby and meeting space, plus an additional performance space on the second level for smaller productions, events or business meetings. The theatre can be rented for special events and performances. The State Theatre will serve a 10 county region.
