Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 03, 2013
The Board of Trustees of Cathedral High School is proud to announce that Dr. Oscar Santos, Ed. D. will become the school’s new Headmaster, effective July 1, 2013.
“The Board is delighted to welcome Dr. Santos to Cathedral High School. His commitment to the quality of education and his concern for student development and growth fit exactly with the interests and goals of the Cathedral family. We expect that together, Cathedral High School will grow and flourish as one of the finest Catholic schools in Boston,” said Mr. John Drew, Chairman of the Cathedral High School Board of Trustees.
For the past three years, Dr. Santos has been the Superintendent of Schools for the Randolph (MA) Public Schools. During his tenure there, Oscar left indelible improvements to Randolph’s schools in the areas of increased academic achievement, decreased drop-out rates and increased graduation rates.
He and his administrative team also created and implemented an accelerated plan for improvement and for raising student achievement which the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) now uses as a model for improvement in other school districts across the Commonwealth.
Prior to being Superintendent, Dr. Santos served for six years as Headmaster of the Boston International High School where he transformed it from an ESL program to a full degree-granting high school. In addition, Oscar completed the Boston Principal Fellowship program and was a learning community leader and classroom teacher at English High School.
Amongst his many accomplishments, Dr. Santos was recognized as Boston Teacher of the Year in 2002 and received the Governors’ Award for Latino Extraordinary Leadership in 2011.
Dr. Santos remarked that “it is an honor to serve as the new Headmaster of Cathedral High School. Cathedral has had a rich history in shaping the lives of young people and families in the city of Boston for almost a century. Its unrelenting core values to develop urban youth to be leaders for their times and beyond is a community that I am honored and excited to join.”
Dr. Santos replaces Mr. James Rice who has served as interim Headmaster for the past two years. Mr. Rice, who is also a member of the schools’ Board of Trustees, will return to his previous role at Cathedral High School to assist Dr. Santos in various non-academic areas.
