Wine lovers at 'Taste of Garagiste' at Wood & Vine

We are excited to be kicking off our third Garagiste season by introducing wine lovers to a group of outstanding, and extremely limited-production, wineries, each epitomizing the spirit of the American Garagiste movement.

Paso Robles, CA (PRWEB) May 06, 2013

The Garagiste Festival today announced that it is kicking off its “Taste of Garagiste” summer series on May 18th at Hollywood’s Wood & Vine with a new and exciting slate of artisan wineries, each pouring their current vintages, which are all under 1,000 total cases. None of the featured wineries - Alma Sol Winery, C. Nagy Wines, Cholame Vineyards, Deovlet Wines, and Press Gang Cellars – has its own tasting room, so this is a rare opportunity for consumers to experience these high-quality, hand-crafted wines poured by the winemakers who made them.

The Hollywood ‘Taste of Garagiste’ is the first in a series of mini-tasting events across California showcasing hard-to-find and exceptional garagiste* wineries leading up to the 2013 Garagiste Festival, which will take place November 7th – 10th in Paso Robles.

“We are excited to be kicking off our third Garagiste season by introducing wine lovers to a group of outstanding, and extremely limited-production, wineries, each epitomizing the spirit of the American Garagiste movement – passionate, small-lot winemakers handcrafting some of the best wines available anywhere in the world,” said Garagiste Festival Co-founder Doug Minnick. “When it comes to these winemakers, it is a case of taste this vintage now --- or probably never! This is an exclusiveness our garagistes fans are accustomed to, making it the perfect event to begin the countdown to what promises to be our best-ever summer tasting series and our best-ever Garagiste Festival in November.”

The Hollywood event will be held on the patio of Wood & Vine, one of Los Angeles’ hottest wine and food spots, and offers the Garagiste Festival’s signature intimate atmosphere and opportunity for wine lovers to not only be among the first to discover these new and extraordinary wines, but to get to know the winemakers who craft them.

The winemakers at the May 18th event all hail from California’s Central Coast and are truly small-lot, with Alma Sol and Press Gang Cellars making just 300 cases of their current releases. Deovlet Wines is the largest of the group, with C. Nagy Wines and Cholame Vineyards making around 600 cases a year. Between them, they will pour a total of over fifteen wines, including multiple varietals, from Chardonnay to Pinot Noir, to Syrah, Grenache, Tempranillo, and Viognier. Tickets for the event, which includes Wood & Vine’s cheese and charcuterie spread, are $25 a person.

The Garagiste Festivals, produced by Garagiste Events, are the first and only festivals dedicated to discovering and promoting artisan ‘garagiste’ winemakers and showcase high-quality, cutting-edge, small production wineries that produce fewer than 1,200 cases a year. Launched in 2011, The Garagiste Festivals have emerged as among the most unique and influential wine events in California, literally giving name, face and voice to the American Garagiste. The festival was named one of the ‘Top Nine Incredible Epicurean Vacations’ in the world by ABC News* and a ‘not to miss’ event by the LA Times.

The Hollywood ‘Taste of Garagiste’ event takes place from 2pm – 5pm at Wood & Vine, located in the Taft Building at 6280 Hollywood Boulevard at Vine Street, just a block from the Metro station.

**Garagistes (gar-uh-zhē-stuh) is a term originally used in the Bordeaux region of France to denigrate renegade small-lot wine makers, sometimes working in their "garages" (anything considered not a chateau), who refused to follow the “rules,” and is now a full-fledged movement responsible for making some of the best wine in the world.
