On May 4, John Monderine, CEO of the New York-based debt collection agency Rapid Recovery Solution, issues a statement commending the Oklahoma collection agency CFS2 for its receipt of the American Consumer Council’s 2013 “Friend of the Consumer” Award.
The Wall Street Journal (4/18/13) reports that the company, based in Tulsa, is the first collection agency to receive the award. Debt collection is often considered the “least consumer friendly industry,” says the article, but the agency proved itself a “friend to the consumer” through its assistance services.
Thomas Hinton, President and CEO of the American Consumer Council, is quoted as saying that the Council chose to honor CFS2 for its “commitment to helping a large segment of consumers get back on their feet through employment assistance and debt negotiation services.”
The company’s CEO, Bill Bartmann, says the approach is part of a larger strategy, saying that the company’s model reduces “reputational risk” for the banks that are selling off delinquent loans and that companies can never go wrong by doing what’s right. “For too long collection agencies have gotten away with unethical practices for how they treat consumers and collect debt,” says Bartmann. “Pending legal actions from the FTC, CFPB and State Attorneys General are holding banks liable for the actions of the companies that purchase delinquent loans from banks. When debt-buying companies abuse the consumer by robo-signing and robo-suing based on defective or fraudulent documents, the responsibility will ultimately lie with the banks.”
John Monderine, CEO of Rapid Recovery Solution, a debt collection agency in New York, says he would like to commend the company for its progressive vision. “Outfits like this are changing our industry, and for the better. I hope the example they’re setting will show people that not all agencies think that abusing debtors is the best way to resolve financial issues. The services they’re offering have never been more necessary than now, as our economy struggles to recover. The years to come are going to see a lot of fraudulent and abusive collectors out of business, and the consumer will have the industry’s boldest reformers to thank for it.”
