While fixing leaks, adjusting lawn watering times, and installing water-efficient shower heads are smart ideas, replacing a wasteful RO with a LINX® Drinking Water System may be one of the single most important, water-conserving tasks you can do.

Pionetics, an innovative water technology company that develops drinking water systems using LINX® technology, celebrates Drinking Water Week with water conservation advice that actually saves thousands of gallons of water a year.
As many people noticed on Earth Day a few weeks ago, the Internet was inundated with ideas and ways to conserve water. Some of the ideas found online included, “When cleaning out fish tanks, give the nutrient-rich water to your plants,” and, “When you have ice left in your cup from a take-out restaurant, don't throw it in the trash, dump it on a plant,” or this idea, “Bathe your young children together.” Of the dozens of lists perused from such sources as Water, Use It Wisely to the EPA water conservation webpages, absolutely none mentioned how much water was wasted by reverse osmosis (RO) systems. None.
H. Martin Jessen, Vice President of Pionetics Corporation states, "After reviewing dozens of lists, and over 300 suggestions from respected sources, it was astonishing to discover that none of these mentioned replacing RO systems. While fixing leaks, adjusting lawn watering times, and installing water-efficient shower heads are smart ideas, replacing a wasteful RO with a LINX® Drinking Water System may be one of the single most important, water-conserving tasks you can do.”
This week during Drinking Water Week, Pionetics recognizes how vital it is for everyone to have an abundant supply of safe, healthy water. LINX Drinking Water Systems deliver RO quality water, but without the water waste. See a list of contaminants removed by a LINX drinking water system here. LINX Drinking Water Systems actually save consumers thousands of gallons of water a year over a reverse osmosis system. The average reverse osmosis system will waste anywhere from 12 to 30 gallons of potable water to produce only one gallon of drinking water depending upon the back pressure from the RO tank, feed water temperature, and water pressure. To see how this happens, go to our water waste video here.
In contrast, a LINX Drinking Water System requires only 0.6 to 1.4 gallons of water to produce that same gallon of clean, healthy water. At that rate, consumers who only use one gallon of filtered water a day will save nearly 7,000 gallons a year compared to an RO consumer. A study conducted by Van Newenhizen and Associates evaluated the water waste from several types of drinking water systems. While most of the systems had comparable results in their ability to reduce total dissolved solids, the LINX Drinking Water System demonstrated “superior efficiency” in regards to the amount of water conserved. So while it is always a good practice to, “Collect the water you use for rinsing fruits and vegetables, then reuse it to water houseplants,” Pionetics urges consumers to remember that water waste doesn’t just happen at their sink, it is also lurking under their sink camouflaged as their RO.
LINX Drinking Water Systems are offered through Authorized Dealers in two under-the-sink models or as a bottleless water cooler. Both systems offer features not possible in any other drinking water technology on the market today:
- Dramatically less water waste than Reverse Osmosis systems
- Operates using "smart" software and display lights that communicate detailed system status to the consumer
- Dial-A-Taste® Control that allows the consumer to adjust the mineral content and taste of the drinking water produced.
- Reliable drinking water quality due to the "smart feature" of the system's computer that adjusts the filtering process in response to the feed water quality.
- Field Service Assistant which enables the technician to reprogram the LINX unit based on feedwater quality, further optimizing water recovery rates, customizing the system's performance, and maximizing effectiveness and efficiency.
- Simplicity of installation and servicing of the equipment.
LINX technology uses an ion exchange process, but uses electricity for regeneration rather than chemicals. LINX systems are controlled by programmable software that allows consumers to adjust the system to produce the water taste they prefer all while conserving water. Pionetics is currently signing new distributors who are interested in offering their consumers the newest drinking water technology since the RO was introduced in the 1960s. Anyone interested in becoming a distributor anywhere around the world - should contact H. Martin Jessen at 480-836-0887.
