The leading cause for construction accident deaths is a fall, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). With over 264 deaths resulting from a fall in 2010, OSHA has started a Fall Prevention Campaign to help ensure workers are safe while on the job. Attorney Charles Boyk proudly supports this campaign, stating, “I have seen firsthand what happens when the proper measures are not taken on a construction site, so I think this campaign is a great way to help save lives of construction workers.”
The Fall Prevention Campaign consists of three simple steps, listed below:
Step 1: Plan
Plan ahead when working from heights. Decide which tasks are involved with the job and ensure the correct safety equipment for each task. Include the cost of safety equipment in the overall cost of the job.
Step 2: Provide
Provide the right equipment for workers, including the right kind of ladders and scaffolding. Safety gear is also essential to the protection of construction workers.
Step 3: Train
Train workers to use all equipment the right way. Make sure that they also know hazard recognition to help to prevent accidents from occurring.
