We are giving direct access to the consumer and our efficiency allows more people to enjoy wonderful, healthy food at an affordable price point.”
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) May 07, 2013
Edison Grainery, an organic and gluten-free grains company, announced today that they are celebrating their first year in business by moving into a state-of-the-art packing and warehouse facility. The company also announced that they won a 2013 Food & Beverage Innovation Award (FABI) from the National Restaurant Association. The Oakland-based company was started in May 2012 by Amy Barnes, a cancer survivor and Celiac, and her husband, Jeffrey Barnes, a veteran of the organic foods industry.
“My family’s food allergies and dietary restrictions were the catalyst behind starting Edison Grainery,” says Amy Barnes, Co-owner of Edison Grainery. “After being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I have bid farewell to items containing wheat including traditional pasta, cakes, bread and cookies, and I am very proud of the product line we’ve created.”
Edison Grainery’s affordable line of certified organic and gluten-free products range from pantry staples to super foods. When Edison Grainery opened last year, they were located in a small 9 ft. by 13 ft. room. The company recently moved into a new 24,000 sq. ft. space dedicated exclusively to warehousing and packing Edison products, as well as co-packaging. Edison Grainery’s high-tech production facilities include three production lines, two of which are free of gluten, wheat, nuts and soy, and the other ‘allergen-tolerant zone’ which processes organic primitive wheat and nuts.
The company’s mission is to deliver affordable organic and gluten-free foods to consumers via independent markets and direct Internet sales. “We’re often the ‘first-touch’ after the supplier, so we decided to package the ingredients into user-friendly sizes of 16 ounces, 5 pounds and 25 pound bags,” said Jeffrey Barnes, Co-founder of Edison Grainery. “We are giving direct access to the consumer and our efficiency allows more people to enjoy wonderful, healthy food at an affordable price point.”
All Edison Grainery products are certified:
- Gluten-Free by The Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO)
- Organic by Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO)
- USDA Organic by the USDA's National Organic Program (NOP)
- Sustainable by SCS Global Services
- Kosher by the Chicago Rabbinical Council
The Edison Grainery Organic Quinoa Pasta is the proud recipient of the 2013 Food & Beverage Innovations Awards (FABI) presented by the National Restaurant Association (NRA). An independent, expert panel of industry leaders gives the award to a select few from numerous applications. Edison Grainery will accept the prestigious award at the NRA’s annual convention on May 18th in Chicago, IL.

About Edison Grainery
Edison Grainery is a family-owned business dedicated to bringing affordable premium organic foods to consumers. In 2009, co-owner, Amy Barnes, was diagnosed with multiple cancers and Celiac Disease. During her recovery, which included dietary changes, she discovered the many benefits of a gluten-free diet for herself and her family. Disappointed by both the selection and pricing of organic and gluten-free foods found in grocery stores, the Barnes family decided that these foods should not be hard to attain nor be beyond the budget of the average American household; thus Edison Grainery was born. Edison Grainery is located in Oakland, California, and can be found at EdisonGrainery.com via Facebook and Twitter @EdisonGrainery, or by calling (510) 595-8067.
