Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 07, 2013

May is Better Hearing Month and Healthy Hearing wants to make an impact on the fight against hearing loss. Healthy Hearing has partnered with the Hearing Health Foundation to host a pledge for individuals to get their hearing tested. For every person who pledges to get their hearing tested, HealthyHearing.com will donate $1 to the Hearing Health Foundation’s research on hearing loss.

Ready to get help while helping others?

How to take the pledge

Pledging is easy! During the month of May, visit Healthy Hearing and take the pledge on our site. Fill in the designated spots for a first and last name, email address and zip code. Once this information has been entered, click the green “sign the pledge” button and the process is complete! After that, another page will pop-up with information on how to download one of Healthy Hearing's free guides for more information on hearing loss.

And to help kick-start the process of getting a hearing test, an email from HealthyHearing.com will be sent with a list of hearing health providers nearby.

Why take the pledge?
According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, an estimated 38 million Americans suffer from some degree of hearing loss. Of those individuals, only one out of five will actually seek treatment for hearing loss. And if that’s not reason enough, did you know that individuals with untreated hearing loss are more likely to develop depression, social isolation and a decrease in their overall quality of life?

Who else is supporting the pledge?
In addition to Healthy Hearing and the Hearing Health Foundation, there are a number of other hearing health organizations contributing to and promoting the better hearing pledge. The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA), American Academy of Audiology (AAA), American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) and American Speech-Hearing-Language Association (ASHA) are all working in collaboration with pledge sponsor Healthy Hearing and the Hearing Health Foundation.

What happens next?

Once you’ve taken the pledge at Healthy Hearing, encourage others to sign it and get their hearing tested too! Telling others about the pledge is a great way to follow through with getting a hearing test. Make sure to stop by Healthy Hearing’s Facebook or Twitter and let everyone else know where to sign the pledge!

Dealing with hearing loss can be frustrating, but that can end today. Take the pledge at Healthy Hearing and start the path to better hearing now!
