SYLVANIA, Ohio –
(PRWEB) May 07, 2013 -- Everyone needs a hero, especially young girls. Avid reader and author Kathleen Schuller showcases her favorite heroines in this new book, sharing ideas with a new generation of young readers who may not have read these inspiring books yet. None of these literary heroines is perfect, but they grow in spirit thanks to circumstances and influence from others. Schuller aims to help young girls visualize the virtues of these heroines and apply them to their own lives.
“How To Be a Heroine for Girls: Inspiration from Classic Heroines” introduces the author’s favorite heroines by summarizing such classic books as “The Secret Garden” and “A Little Princess” by Frances Hodgson Burnett, “Anne of Green Gables” by Lucy M. Montgomery, “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott and “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen, as well as a quote from Laura Ingalls Wilder, who wrote the Little House books. Schuller offers quotes from the books, followed by her interpretations of the words. A recommended reading list and charming chapter illustrations by Melissa Bailey complete the book.
Despite their different home and family situations, the heroines share some traits, the author points out. All have integrity, including the capacity to learn and love, and all experience growing pains in the difficult process of growing up – important lessons to learn. The author highlights heroic deeds by her heroines, such as Sara Crewe sharing her food with a beggar girl, even though Sara was practically starving herself. Schuller provides examples of how young girls can act as heroines in their own lives, such as visiting a lonely neighbor, overcoming disappointments, trying new accomplishments, learning to be beautiful on the inside, and being kind to others.
This is the first book for author Kathleen Schuller, who has a master’s degree in English literature. She works as an office manager and spends her free time reading and writing, among other pursuits. She belongs to the Jane Austen Society of North America.
