We love how tea brings people together. The richness of tea traditions around the world are well documented. And the amazing thing...is that if you can talk over tea, you can talk with anybody.

The Queens’ Tea, the Utah-based brand of premium loose leaf teas that are sourced directly from hand-selected growers in Japan and China, announced the launch of its first crowdsourced fundraising campaign through RocketHub. The crowdsourced fundraising campaign is intended to support the opening of The Queens’ Tea inaugural retail storefront located at the corner of 9th and 9th at 902 South 900 East in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Queens’ Tea, which received accolades during the 2013 Sundance Film Festival for its focus on exploring the richness of tea and its history through a wide range of expertly chosen tea varieties and classes that connect consumers to the vast history of tea, is now focused on broadening its U.S. distribution and bringing the experience of tea to consumers in Utah and beyond.
Co-founders Michael Ferguson, a PhD candidate in Bioengineering at the University of Utah, and Seth Anderson, a Master’s student in History also at the University of Utah, partnered to combine their expertise in science and storytelling to pioneer a tea company whose goal is to enrich cultural understanding. Through its hand-selected loose leaf blends, the Queen’s Tea is dedicated to educating communities about the history, ritual, science, and proper preparation of tea.
“We love how tea brings people together,” says Anderson. “The richness of tea traditions around the world are well documented. And the amazing thing we’ve found is if you can talk over tea, you can talk with anybody. Tea rekindles our connection to history, to the earth, and to each other. It is the original social media.”
“What the world has known for centuries is tea is just good for you,” adds Ferguson. “Up to 30% of the dry weight of a tea leaf is antioxidants, which are the molecules that give cardiovascular protection and have been proven to be preventative for a number of cancers. Tea is really amazing from a chemistry point of view.”
