The nationwide company is headquartered in Miami on Herman Way, a street that the city named in 1996, symbolic of Herman’s deep roots in the community.
Known as Herman Radio Corp in the 1950s, the company operated several Herman Radio locations throughout South Florida. In 1963, when Arnold Wolf purchased the company from Harvey Herman, Herman Electronics was one of the original replacement parts distributors for Sony and Panasonic. For the next 20 years, Herman was a leading provider of original replacement parts and accessories for all the major consumer electronics manufacturers.
“In the mid-80s, we quickly realized that our growth strategy was dependent on acquiring as many product lines as possible, ahead of our competition. By the early 90s, Herman had acquired virtually every major manufacturer and was a leading national provider,” said Wolf.
Herman made headlines in the mid-90s by acquiring competitor, Panson Electronics. “It was the first such transaction in our industry,” Wolf recounted, and it propelled Herman further into industry prominence. Later in the 90s, as the technology began to change rapidly, Herman made a strategic decision to leverage its core competencies and focus on a related industry that would provide growth and diversification. Herman Systems Group was the company’s next evolution, focused on products plus value-added services and logistics for AV System Integrators.
The company re-branded in the early 2000s as Herman Procurement & Logistics, to more accurately reflect the service it offered to customers. Today, Herman ProAV, including its recently launched Herman Integration Services division, is a leading provider to the commercial AV industry.
