You can't be held in the dark, metaphorically speaking, and then come into the light and think everything is going to be all right.
Akron, OH (PRWEB) May 07, 2013
The breaking news of three Cleveland women who were kidnapped ten years ago and escaped this week is only too familiar to therapist and author Susan Rau Stocker. She is the author of several books, the newest of which, Only Her Naked Courage, was just released as a Kindle book.
The story line to Stocker's book is chillingly similar to what happened in Cleveland. In the novel a woman is kidnapped and held for a year. The book, says Stocker, is about PTSD and the arduous journey back to a normal life after experiencing a trauma.
Stocker, who also wrote The Many Faces of PTSD: Does Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Have a Grip On Your Life? knows from working with PTSD patients that the journey for the rescued women is far from over.
“This level of trauma is horrific. The ordeal is not over,” says Stocker, “You can't be held in the dark, metaphorically speaking, and then come into the light and think everything is going to be all right. These women and this child will probably spend a lifetime recovering.”
Only Her Naked Courage is available as a Kindle book now and as pre-order for the paperback version, which will be available June 1, 2013.
