Seattle's Geekist Neighborhoods

“Now if you are moving to Seattle you can choose to move near folks that match their geek tendencies and be with like-minded individuals, or you can choose to make a neighborhood more well-rounded and move in with folks that have different interests.”

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 08, 2013

Seattle moving company Accountable Moving, published an infographic and interactive map outlining information gathered from a unique study analyzing over 40 parameters of geekiness, uncovering the hidden personalities of every zip code in the Puget Sound region.

Using a social media advertising data, researchers divided subjects into four categories based on reported interests: Sci-Fi Geeks, Fantasy Geeks, Code Geeks and Geek Media readers. Then, using geographic information, geek populations were mapped across the region, revealing where the geekiest concentrations exist. Results show that downtown Seattle is home to the greatest number of geeks, while Federal Way holds the fewest – perhaps valuable information to movers thinking about where to locate themselves in Seattle.

“When considering conducting research for a moving company in Seattle we had to ask the question, ‘What would someone moving to Seattle want to know about the area?’” Accountable Moving’s Owner Jeff Gish explains, “We thought that inbound individuals would be interested in the personality makeup of neighborhoods that they might choose to relocate to. As the brainstorming continued we asked, ‘What makes Seattle unique when compared to other major metropolitan areas in the country?’ The eventual answer was that Seattle has a higher concentration of people interested in geek-type of activities including sci-fi, fantasy, coding, and geek media. That realization begs the question, ‘What type of geek lives where?’ So we decided to produce an infographic that maps the concentration of geek-types in the Seattle area for each major neighborhood.”

This research is the first of its kind and demonstrates that unique information about the personality of neighborhoods is available via Facebook advertising data, and may be helpful to those moving to Seattle in finding the right neighborhood based their personality. “Now if you are moving to Seattle you can choose to move near folks that match their geek tendencies and be with like-minded individuals, or you can choose to make a neighborhood more well-rounded and move in with folks that have different interests.”
