"Many people are apprehensive about switching away from Duquesne Light because they view offers as 'too good to be true' and 'riddled with fine print' and 'hidden fees,'" says Justin Snyder, National Brand Manager. "Oasis Energy is taking a direct approach, transparently laying out all of the costs and fees, and showing Pittsburghers how these savings are not only real, but substantial."

The infographic calculates the average savings for a typical homeowner who uses 1,000 kWh per month. Based on Oasis Energy’s 6.4 cents per kWh, plus a $5.95 per month base fee, the customer saves over $347 a year by switching to Oasis Energy from Duquesne Light’s 9.89 cent per kWh rate. This works out to a 29% savings off the supply portion of a customer’s electricity charges. Each consumer’s exact savings will vary based on their usage. Customers who average more than 1,000 kWh will see more savings than customers who use less power. However, every customer who averages at least 170 kWh a month will see savings, and customers who are very low usage customers who do not see a savings are urged to call Oasis Energy’s customers service to discuss how the company can “make it right”.

Many consumers are interested in “Going Green” and purchasing 100% renewable energy plans. However, in the past these rate plans were cost prohibitive compared to traditional energy rates. Oasis Energy is now offering a 12 month fixed rate, 100% renewable plan for less than Duquesne Light’s non-renewable rates. A customer can now not only switch to a renewable energy plan, but they can save money at the same time. Oasis Energy’s infographic breaks down the math as follows: Customers pay 7.5 cents per kWh, plus a $5.95 per month base fee with Oasis Energy’s renewable energy plan. This is compared to Duquesne Light’s non-renewable plans which have a rate of 9.89 cents per kWh. A typical customer who averages 1,000 kWh per month will not only enjoy the “good feeling” of purchasing 100% renewable energy, but will also save $215 for the year, a total savings of over 18%.

The infographic is a snapshot of what the savings looks like on May 9th, 2013. Both Oasis Energy and Duquesne Light’s rates are subject to change in the future.
