Columbus, OH (PRWEB) May 11, 2013
Representatives from the City of Columbus and General Energy Solutions USA (GES) announced the official commissioning of the solar energy array installed on the Fleet Management Division Building (4211 Grove Road, Columbus, Ohio) on May 9, 2013. This is Columbus’ largest rooftop solar energy project, consisting of 2,650 fixed photovoltaic (PV) panels and with projected production of 803,000 kilowatt hours annually, enough to power approximately 85 homes and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 65 cars off the road.
“The City of Columbus welcomes GES as a partner in this creative solution that allows us to increase sustainability and diversify sources for renewable electric power,” said Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman.
The project is owned and will be operated by GES, a global solar energy company with headquarters in Taiwan. Not only is GES heavily invested in California, with projects totaling over 40 megawatts in the pipeline, but GES is also active in the Midwest, with nearly 30 megawatts currently under development.
One of GES’ notable projects under construction is the 12.5 megawatt project located at the Indianapolis International Airport, scheduled to be completed later this year.
“GES is honored to help the City of Columbus embrace solar energy while also investing in the local economy,” said David Su, CEO of GES. “Our executive team has strong ties to Columbus and we take pride in bringing this green energy solution, as well as the job opportunities involved, to our Columbus hometown and its people.“
GES invests in local economy with solar project
GES intentionally sought local companies Spectrum Capital Energy and electrical construction company Settle Muter Electric, hired through GES’ general contractor, Premier Power Renewable Energy, to install the solar panels on the City’s Fleet Maintenance building. According to Su, working with local businesses is the key approach to the company’s corporate responsibility philosophy and also helps to keep energy costs affordable.
Said Su, “Continuing to developing solar projects in Ohio and the Midwest is a critical component of GES’ investment strategy.”
City representatives discussed hosting education tours of the solar array at the Fleet Management Division Building to help inform children and the public of the benefits of renewable energy. A permanent display in the lobby will demonstrate the production details of the solar array in real time.
