Many dog lovers are finding out Camp Cookstown is not a kennel or your typical dog boarding experience. Located at 5268 County Road 56, north of Toronto and just south of Barrie, Ryan & Dan Kowarsky have taken their 45 acre land and turned it into a dog boarding resort with a camp-like experience for the dogs, including experiences you don't find at most dog boarding facilities such as photography, training, grooming and transportation services.
Camp Cookstown has taken a modern approach to scheduling, catering to this world of technology, using a state-of-the-art online booking system. This booking system makes it easy to make reservations. It guides a customer through booking their dog’s stay, changing or canceling reservations and providing any additional information that Camp Cookstown’s employees may need to know about their dog, including medications or food preferences.
But their online booking system is not the only thing that sets Camp Cookstown apart from the other dog boarding facilities in the Barrie & Toronto area. Owners, Dan & Ryan Kowarsky, set up their 45 acre farmland as a camp vacation for dogs with a brand new, fully heated and air conditioned barn for boarding throughout the year, a one-acre fenced in area for the dogs to run around and play in, and puppy pools for cooling off. They even refer to their pet first aid & CPR certified staff as Camp Counsellors.
“Endless touring often left us in a predicament where we were unable to find a place to leave our dogs, so – five years ago we began a different adventure. We decided to open Camp Cookstown, the world’s finest vacation destination… an open concept boarding camp for your dog,” explains Ryan and Dan. “We leave for Vegas in a few days to sing with Shania at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace and as we get on that stage, we will be secure in the knowledge that our dogs are safe, happy and perhaps, to our dismay, not even missing us.”
To make the experience over-the-top for the dogs, they go beyond your typical boarding facilities offering more than just grooming, but 30-minute private sessions with a professional behavioural consultant for obedience training. And if that isn't enough, they also have staff snapping photos of the dogs throughout the day, providing professional photographs.
This innovative way of running a dog boarding camp is turning heads across Barrie, Collingwood, Newmarket and all the way up to the GTA area.
