More taxpayers are being garnished for unpaid income taxes, property taxes and business taxes than two years ago. To continue providing the highest quality tax relief services across the country, CTR has implemented a wage garnishment learning and assistance center. Taxpayers who need to know how to stop wage garnishment will be able to visit one location, view help topics and contact a support representative.
“This program is already very popular because of how many people owe the IRS money or have state tax debt and are having their wages garnished,” said a CTR Spokesperson. “There are options available for qualified individuals and it is possible to get relief during the very serious levy action.”
Wage garnishment is a type of levy in which an employer withholds extra taxes from an employee’s paychecks in order for the government to collect an owed amount. Taxpayers owing the IRS or state governments will have already received several notices of wage garnishment actions before the process begins. Many times, taxpayers do not know what to do about potential problems, which is why CTR’s management hopes the new learning and assistance center will provide a place to start.
“Once a levy action begins, it is very difficult to stop it,” said a CTR Spokesperson. “State governments have started garnishing wages for everything from property taxes to unpaid parking tickets. The IRS can garnish your paycheck and leave you with very little to live on. This is a very difficult situation for an individual to find themselves in.. Our learning center was developed to provide the information needed to help and put these taxpayers directly in contact with the experts who can help.”
Wage garnishment by state is also addressed by the learning center. Many more states are facing economic and budget problems and have turned to new methods of collecting unpaid tax debt.
“The state of Colorado has implemented a new computer system that is garnishing tax refunds and wages for unpaid taxes and state penalties,” said a CTR Spokesperson. “Similarly, North Carolina has counties that are now garnishing taxpayer wages for unpaid property taxes. Two completely different states with different political standards and they are essentially enacting the same collection policies. Our team updates the learning center regularly as policies change and new information becomes available.”
