Seven Haynes and Boone partners from three offices have been named IP Stars, and the Intellectual Property Practice Group has been voted to the top Texas tier in the inaugural IP Stars ranking by Managing Intellectual Property Magazine.
“Known for taking on a range of contentious and non-contentious patent and trademark matters,” editors wrote, the firm's stock in intellectual property is “on the rise.”
IP Star honorees were nominated by their peers and in-house counsel, with final selection based on extensive research among IP practitioners.
Named IP Stars were Jeff Becker, Randall Brown, Andrew Ehmke, David McCombs and Purvi Patel of Dallas, Kenneth Parker of Orange County, Calif., and Bradley J. Olson of Washington, D.C.
The magazine singled out Becker, Brown and Patel and for special attention in the firm’s ranking as one of the nine “highly recommended” Texas firms for IP legal work.
Becker is “considered one of the leading trademark and copyright lawyers in Texas,” the editors noted. Brown, chair of the firm's Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions Section, is lauded for “his practice on patent prosecution involving the chemical arts and pharmaceuticals among other specialty areas,” and Patel for trademark work that concentrates on brand management and managing trademark portfolios for domestic and international clients.
“Our IP team has a truly national practice whose reputation is catching up with its immense and growing capabilities,” said Terry Conner, Haynes and Boone managing partner. “This kind of recognition of the practice and so many of its lawyers reflects the extraordinary skill and depth of knowledge we have cultivated to serve our sophisticated clients.”
These latest honors come on the heels of a designation earlier this year of the firm’s 25+ lawyer trademark practice as one of the country’s best. It was ranked as one of the 14 elite groups in the 2013 World Trademark Review 1000, the definitive guide exclusively dedicated to researching the world’s leading trademark professionals.
Firm-wide, the Haynes and Boone Intellectual Property practice includes more than 90 attorneys who handle the range of IP matters, including patent, trademark and copyright prosecution and litigation, trade secret litigation, licensing, and administrative proceedings at the USPTO.
About Managing IP’s IP Stars
IP Stars ranks market-leading attorneys at top U.S. law firms, emphasizing editorial coverage of firms’ capabilities and analyzing attorneys to reflect their specific expertise. IP Stars is published online at miphandbook.com, a searchable portal to Managing IP’s legal market commentary, news on major cases, and other updates on the legal profession. Managing IP, part of the Euromoney Legal Media Group, conducts research rigorously and impartially. Firms cannot vote for their own inclusion or solicit votes from associates. Moreover, the tables are not an exhaustive list of every firm in each jurisdiction; to be included at all, a firm must have received a large number of recommendations from peers and clients.
