Understanding electricity deregulation and energy rates can be difficult for many consumers, which is why Direct Energy is simplifying the learning process. The electric provider has set up a Pinterest-style webpage that illustrates ways to save energy, summarizes what energy deregulation is all about, outlines Direct Energy savings programs, and more – including a unique series of Energy Zombies videos.

The page includes a series of text and video boxes about Direct Energy’s services presented in a more easy-to-read format versus its corporate web site. “Like Pinterest, the page draws the users’ attention with visual clarity, but allows more pictures to be displayed at one time,” said Eric Melchor, Direct Energy digital marketing manager. “There’s a variety of content along with brief discussions about energy usage. Each bit of information is succinct, straightforward and in some cases, entertaining” Melchor said.

The page features ways to save energy around the home; a video detailing Direct Energy’s $100,000 giveaway to nonprofits for reducing energy usage; tips on how to save on energy costs; and FAQs regarding Direct Energy’s rate plans. There’s also a video detailing how one customer pushes her electricity use to the limit to take advantage of Direct Energy’s “Free Power Day,” the one day of the week when Direct Energy customers get free electricity. Users can click each box for additional information.

Notably, Direct Energy has taken a new approach to raising awareness of electricity waste in the home through a series of video clips of electricity bills versus zombies on the hub page. Viewers can follow a pair of domestic zombies as they foolishly and ghoulishly fritter away their electricity.
