If you don't have a pending deadline, people tend to not feel a sense of urgency to donate

Crowdfunding expert Kendall Almerico, CEO of crowdfunding site ClickStartMe, who recently released his Top 10 tips for launching a crowdfunding project, discussed the importance of proper funding deadlines to the success of online crowdfunding. Almerico said there is an art to timing a crowdfunding project properly, but that many people and businesses get it wrong.
"Your deadline is just as important as your funding goal. You can set any deadline you want, but for success you should make the deadline 30-60 day," the crowdfunding guru says. "If you do not have a pending deadline, people tend to not feel a sense of urgency to donate."
Almerico notes that crowdfunders should budget a timeframe that’s flexible enough to decide what makes sense for their project, but notes that most people work better with shorter deadlines. "Be ready to start promoting the day a project is launched," Almerico says, "Because the deadline starts coming at you immediately."
Almerico also offers this tip: "Statistically, most successful projects get at least one donation on the first day, which proves that a strong early promotional push is very important. So be sure to line up some people you know will donate before you launch."
