Long Beach, California (PRWEB) May 17, 2013
The charity Children Today thanks the Omidi brothers and the Children’s Obesity Fund for their sponsorship of the Fifth Annual Children Today 5k/10k Run-Walk to be held in Long Beach on Memorial Day weekend. Children Today is a nonprofit foundation working to help homeless families lead stable, healthy lives.
“Children Today is an advocate for the needs of children in a system that typically sees homelessness as a problem only affecting adults,” says Dora Jacildo, Executive Director of Children Today. “The goal of Children Today is simple – to increase the safety, stability and confidence of children facing homelessness and provide quality early care and education programs absolutely free of charge. The Run-Walk event will help us to achieve that goal, and we’d like to thank the Omidi brothers and the Children’s Obesity Fund for supporting our mission.”
The Children Today 5k/10k Run-Walk event will take place at Marina Green Park in Long Beach on Saturday, May 25. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with the 5k/10k run commencing at 9 a.m. All participants will receive a free t-shirt, goodie bag, and access to a fun post race party. Awards and prizes will be handed out to the runners with the fastest times in their respective age divisions. In addition to the run, participants and spectators will be able to attend the adjoining Health and Wellness Expo.
This is the Fifth Annual Run-Walk fundraiser for Children Today. Last year, the event raised more than $65,000 for the expansion of the Children Today Play House West children’s development center. This year, the organizers anticipate raising as much as $100,000.
Children Today (http://www.childrentoday.org) is an early child care program that caters to homeless families that seek to build a stable future. It began in 1997 as an advocacy program designed to help the homeless children, whose particular needs had been overlooked by other nonprofit organizations and public programs.
The Children Today Play Houses offer early education services as well as day care and meals to children between the ages of six weeks and six years. Play House West is an accredited early learning center, and Play House North is working to achieve accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children. In addition to preschool education, Children Today assists families with providing their children with basic healthcare, mental healthcare and special education services, as well as providing aid with locating permanent housing and furnishings.
Co-founded by Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi, the Children’s Obesity Fund (http://www.childrensobesityfund.org) hopes to help reverse the trend of rising obesity rates in America. The goal of the non-profit charity is to help people fully understand the obesity issue and its dire impacts on individuals and society as a whole -- and to use that knowledge to encourage children to grow up strong and healthy. Children’s Obesity Fund partners with other organizations to educate and support parents, educators and others so that we can all work together to raise healthy, active, social, and happy children. While the organization does not accept donations, it does encourage direct contributions of money and talents to the associations featured on our website. Children’s Obesity Fund is on Facebook as well as Google+, Twitter, and Pinterest.
