The Business Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC), announced today that Representative Dave Camp (R-MI) and J. Larry Nichols, executive chairman, Devon Energy Corporation have been named recipients of the 2013 Champions of Free Enterprise Adam Smith Awards. The Adam Smith Awards are given each year by the Friends of Adam Smith Foundation in partnership with BIPAC, to one business leader and one public official whose life work epitomizes a commitment to free market capitalism, public policy, and a stable economy.
The awards will be presented at BIPAC’s 50th Anniversary Gala on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. Attendees will include Members of Congress and executives from the nation’s leading businesses, associations and state business groups. The dinner celebrates BIPAC's fifty years as the nations preeminent business political organization.
“This award recognizes the leadership of both Congressman Camp and Larry Nichols in preserving free market principles and fighting for a prosperous America,” said BIPAC President and CEO, Gregory S. Casey.
“The Award is an important reminder to our nation’s leaders and to millions of Americans, that the concepts of free enterprise, prosperity and American opportunity are a healthy and important part of the American story. We are privileged to bestow this year’s award to our two distinguished honorees,” Casey concluded.
Last year’s award recipient Representative Harold Rogers (R-KY 5) will present the 2013 Public Official Award to Representative Dave Camp, and Bernadette A. Budde, former senior vice president, BIPAC, and 2012 award recipient, will present the Business Official Award to Larry Nichols. Previous Adam Smith Award recipients include: Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS), Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX), Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Larry Craig (R-ID), Reps. Cass Ballinger (R-NC), Anne Northup (R-KY), and Charlie Stenholm (D-TX).
