“The nature of a moonshiner is that they—by definition—play by their own rules. We wanted an event that celebrated marketers who did the same thing," said Greg Monaco, one of Monaco Lange’s founding partners.

More than 100 top marketers gathered at a secret location to celebrate industry risk takers and boundary breakers at Monaco Lange’s Third Annual Marketing & Moonshine.

The New York-based branding agency hosted the event on Thursday (May 9) with fellow event sponsor Clusters, the market segmentation specialists.

The 2013 Marketing & Moonshine honorees were The Weather Channel for naming winter storms, Gilt for their unprecedented focus on customer analytics and JetBlue for their fun and transparent social media efforts.

“The nature of a moonshiner is that they—by definition—play by their own rules. We wanted an event that celebrated marketers who did the same thing," said Greg Monaco, one of Monaco Lange’s founding partners, who presented each of the honorees with a custom-made ceramic growler as a trophy.

Monaco Lange, which has clients including Girl Scouts of the USA, Circle K and BASF, designed the event with the moonshiner spirit. Participants didn’t know the location or password until they RSVPed via http://www.marketingandmoonshine.com.

When guests arrived at this year’s venue, Top of the Garden, 251 W. 30th St., award-winning actor Faron Salisbury, who appeared in Boardwalk Empire, halted them and checked their credentials. From there, Kristine Foley Photography and Andrew Miller Photography took mug shots.

Andy Goldman, LinkedIn’s Agency Partner Lead, spoke to the group about how to unlock LinkedIn’s goldmine of resources for their businesses.

The marketers networked to the tune of the Ebony Hillbillies. The Brewhouse Group, which has six locations in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, provided sliders and chicken wings. Fox Run Vineyards provided wines and Catskill Distilling Co. provided the Wicked White Whiskey for moonshine cocktails. Birch Coffee brought growlers full of cold-brew ice coffee.

Robert Stark Lighting cast an amber glow on the venue and strung lights above the Top of the Garden’s patio for an old-world feel. Symmetry Printing provided materials for the event. Crystal Swan Etchings engraved Mason jars loaded with old fashioned candies for the evening.
