The Grommet is proud to feature these DIY pens as they encourage the maker in everyone.

The Grommet, an online shopping site and product launch platform for innovative and undiscovered products, is working with Scottish Design Studio, Fraser Ross, to feature DIY Pens. Designer Fraser Ross is giving tinkerers the opportunity to make an operable pen from a flat kit of parts. The Grommet is proud to feature these DIY pens as they encourage the maker in everyone.
Fraser’s vision is to create playful projects that open our imaginations and encourage human interaction. It took more than 100 prototypes before his design studio in Glasgow, Scotland, came up with a way to fit all the components of a pen onto a single sheet of plywood the size of a postcard. The 22 structural pieces can be punched out of the plywood and assembled into a DIY writing instrument. The pen maker fits all the pieces together, and then shrink wraps the entire assembly in rubber to keep it intact (you need a hairdryer for this step).
About The Grommet
The Grommet is a highly curated online marketplace and launch platform for products of great utility, style or invention that haven’t hit the big-time yet. The Grommet seeks out these unique products, carefully tests them, and produces a video review of each one telling the story behind its creation. The Grommet is rooted in the philosophy of Citizen Commerce whereby regular people form the commerce experience by suggesting products that reflect their values and interests. Citizen Commerce turns the typical top down retailer approach sideways, encourages global product innovation from small producers, and satisfies the consumer’s need to know the stories behind and origins of favorite products. The company was also just named one of the hottest sites of 2013 by Internet Retailer. For more information, visit http://www.TheGrommet.com.
