Although all of the publisher’s books are available in digital versions such as PDF, ePub, and Kindle, the small company has found a surprising demand by camera users for books they can hold in their hands.

White Knight Press, located near Richmond, has been publishing guides to higher-end small cameras since 2009, producing full-color instructional books about models such as the Leica D-Lux series, the Panasonic Lumix LX models, and the Sony DSC-RX100, as well as models from Fujifilm, Canon, and Nikon.

Although all of the publisher’s books are available in digital versions such as PDF, ePub, and Kindle, the small company has found a surprising demand by camera users for books they can hold in their hands as they work through the many features of today’s complex cameras.

In recognition of the continuing demand for printed camera guides, White Knight Press has released the paperback edition of its newest book, Photographer’s Guide to the Nikon Coolpix P520: Getting the Most from Nikon’s Superzoom Digital Camera. This 402-page book by Alexander White, like earlier titles in the author’s series of guide books, is designed to cut through the complications of this sophisticated camera and give users a head start in mastering its functions. The book explains the workings of the Coolpix P520’s numerous controls, menus, and shooting modes in language that is plain and precise, giving photographers the information they need to start capturing excellent still images and videos with a minimum of delay.

The new book provides guidance to beginning and intermediate photographers not only about how to accomplish things with the Coolpix P520, but when and why to use certain features. The book does not assume any specialized knowledge by the reader as it explains topics such as autofocus, manual focus, depth of field, flash settings, aperture priority, shutter priority, HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography, and macro photography. The book also includes a detailed discussion of techniques for getting excellent results with the camera’s phenomenal superzoom lens, which has a maximum optical focal length of 1000mm.

The book’s more than 300 full-color photographs illustrate the camera’s controls and menus, and include examples of the images that can be created using the many special settings of the camera, including the Picture Control settings, which let the photographer alter the color processing of images; the Scene and Special Effects shooting modes, with options that are optimized for various subjects, including landscapes, portraits, and action shots; and the camera’s strong array of features for continuous shooting and interval shooting.

The Coolpix P520 guide book also goes beyond the realm of everyday photography, providing introductions to more advanced topics such as infrared photography, street photography, and macro photography.

The book includes a full discussion of the video recording abilities of the Coolpix P520, which can shoot high-definition (HD) video with stereo sound, and which is able to record short clips of high-speed video at rates up to 4 times normal speed.

In three appendices, the book provides details about accessories that can be used with the P520, including cases, filter adapters, flash, and Nikon’s Wireless Mobile Adapter; sets forth a list of useful web sites and other resources for further information; and includes a special section of “quick tips” with insights into how to take advantage of the camera’s features in the most efficient ways possible.

The book includes a detailed Table of Contents and a 17-page Index so the reader can quickly find needed information about any particular feature or aspect of the camera.

The book is available for $9.95 in PDF, Kindle, and ePub formats for download through http://www.whiteknightpress.com. The paperback version is available for $24.95 through the same site or from Amazon.com.
