These new rules could require employers to report injury and illness data electronically to OSHA on an annual basis and include more detailed incident information - PJ Schoeny, MSDSonline
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 15, 2013
MSDSonline, the leading provider of sustainable cloud-based EH&S compliance solutions, is hosting a series of webinars on OSHA’s proposed changes to the OSHA Recordkeeping Standard and the creation of an Injury and Illness Prevention Program Standard (I2P2). The webinars, entitled “Recordkeeping 101 and a Look at Upcoming Changes” and “I2P2 – OSHA’s Top Priority – What You Need to Know!” are free to the safety community and run approximately an hour long.
“OSHA has been working on these changes for a while now, yet I don’t think safety professionals appreciate the impact they could have on the recording and reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses,” said PJ Schoeny, MSDSonline product manager for Incident Management. “When adopted, these new rules could require employers to report injury and illness data electronically to OSHA on an annual basis and include more detailed incident information.”
Similarly, the creation of an I2P2 Standard could trigger a host of new responsibilities for employers of all sizes to seek out and remediate potential workplace hazards in a systematic fashion.
According to Schoeny, “OSHA Director Dr. David Michaels has said repeatedly that the creation of an I2P2 Standard is a top priority for his agency; which is why we recommend employers get familiar with the tenets of I2P2 sooner rather than later. OSHA is telling employers the type of risk mitigation it would like to see in facilities today.”
The first OSHA Recordkeeping Webinar is May 22, 2013 at 11 am Eastern Time. The first I2P2 webinar is scheduled for June 4, 2013. Additional dates, times and registration for both webinars are available at [http://www.msdsonline.com/blog/2013/05/free-osha-recordkeeping-and-i2p2-webinars/
