Jupiter, Florida (PRWEB) May 17, 2013

A total of 21 golf courses designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus were tapped for the Best Modern Course list annually updated by Golfweek magazine. Among them: The Bear’s Club in Jupiter.

The Bear’s Club's links opened in 2000, its 18 holes meandering through 400 pristine acres of land in Jupiter. The course, as well as the luxurious neighborhood surrounding it, originally were conceived by Nicklaus and envisioned as a premier place to enjoy golf and life in South Florida.

The exquisite community – one of Waterfront Properties and Club Communities’ more popular territories – is such a standout, it is no wonder the editors of Golfweek Magazine selected its course from among the myriad of which to choose. In true signature style, Nicklaus, who lives in Lost Tree Village in North Palm Beach, created a tailored golf-course design that takes into account the native environment and sensitive ecosystem. He preserved beautiful trees and enhanced the environment, turning the course into one the most exclusive in Palm Beach County.

The Bear’s Club came in 158th place on the list of 200. In addition, 20 other Nicklaus-designed golf courses made the cut, nine of which were in the top 100.

Nicklaus received another in the world of golf when the official PGA Tour honored his Nationwide Insurance Memorial Tournament during its annual meeting. The Nationwide Insurance Memorial Tournament founded by the Golden Bear received an award for Best Special Event for its accompanying Legends Luncheon. Nicklaus and his wife Barbara serve as chairs of the Legends Luncheon in an effort to raise awareness of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and its relationship with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Proceeds from the Legends Luncheon – more than a half million dollars to date -- benefit the Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The event always draws sports celebrities and high-profile guest speakers and has an attendance list that tops 500.

The 38th installment of the Memorial Tournament is slated for May 27 through June 2, 2013, at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Nicklaus’ home state of Ohio, where Jupiter Island resident Tiger Woods will defend the title.
