In celebration of Better Hearing and Speech Month,EarQ is turning to its social network to spread hearing loss awareness and give the gift of hearing.
EarQ will donate a set of hearing aids to a random individual who has liked the company’s Facebook page and chosen to engage in hearing healthcare dialogue.
“If you have a loved one, colleague, or patient with hearing loss that would benefit from the gift of better hearing--perhaps even yourself—we encourage you to participate in this campaign,” said, Ed Keller, president of EarQ. “Through this initiative, we have the opportunity to spread national hearing loss awareness and impact the life of one deserving individual.”
More than 280 million people worldwide live with hearing loss, including 38 million Americans. For many, occupational factors such as working in loud environments, the risk of repeated head injuries and stress can contribute to a higher incidence of impairment than in the general population. Left untreated, hearing loss can inhibit social interaction and a person’s ability to perform daily activities, which can lead to withdrawal, isolation, depression and increased instance of heart disease. Yet, only about 20 percent of people with hearing loss actually use a hearing device.
By expanding its social audience, EarQ strives to reach the 80% of Americans who choose to let their hearing loss go untreated and empower them to take control of their hearing health.
