DuPont C8 Contamination in Ohio and West Virginia
C8, also known as perfluorooctoanoic acid (PFOA), was allegedly used for decades at DuPont’s Washington Works plant. According to a report from the Environmental Working Group, DuPont conducted tests in 1984 that showed tap water in one Ohio water district near the plant had been contaminated with C8, but never informed the public about the danger. Internal DuPont studies also indicate the company knew as early as 1980 that C8 was toxic, persistent, and that it presented health risks to exposed individuals.
