Hornchurch, Greater London (PRWEB UK) 2 June 2013

Selected from over 24,000 nominations received by the Pearson Teaching Awards in 2013, the celebration at Havering College was one of 62 taking place in schools across England, Northern Ireland and Wales to present prestigious Regional Teaching Awards to outstanding local heroes of education.

The Pearson Teaching Awards are an annual celebration of exceptional teachers and teaching, founded in 1999 by Lord Puttnam, they recognize the life-changing impact of an inspirational teacher on the lives of the young people they teach.

Colin was nominated for his Award by Havering College Principal Maria Thompson who said: “Colin is not only an excellent Head of School who provides an outstanding experience for his students, he is also an innovative and committed member of the college. He is always the first to volunteer for task groups, raising money for good causes and going that extra mile for students and his staff.

“His remit includes areas such as Electrical Installation, Motor Vehicle and Engineering. He manages to ensure that all his students, whether apprentices in work, apprehensive full- time 16 year olds or part - time students get the individual learning experience they need. It is very difficult to juggle those differing needs and ensuring high standards are met but he does this with good grace and a large dose of humour.”

Teaching Awards judges congratulated him as an extremely worthy win of this prestigious Award.

Colin will now join fellow winners at the UK final of the Teaching Awards on 20th October, filmed in London and broadcast by the BBC.

A delighted Colin said: “I’m overjoyed. It would not have been possible without my wonderful colleagues and students at the college who help to make my job so enjoyable.”

Rod Bristow, President of Pearson UK, said: “We want to recognise and support inspirational teachers, for their commitment to teaching and learning and improving the life chances of the next generation. It’s really important that we create opportunities to say thank you."
