Anna’s Gourmet Goodies received the 2013 Pinnacle Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence from the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes local businesses that have demonstrated courage, commitment, and conviction—and who weren’t afraid to take a leap of faith to start, build and grow a company.
Emerging companies, as well as businesses that demonstrate a history of sustained growth were selected from the Raleigh area by a panel of expert judges. Entrepreneurial businesses received awards for innovation, staying power and community involvement combined with growth and profitability over a minimum three year period.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by your business peers,” said Chris Duke, Co-Founder. “But it’s especially humbling when you are part of a vibrant business community like the Research Triangle Park area, where the bar for entrepreneurial companies is pretty high.”
The Raleigh Chamber handed out awards in twelve categories to a range of companies, from small businesses like Anna’s Gourmet Goodies, to large global organizations such as Lenovo and Mallinckrodt, a Division of Covidien. “We’re proud to serve such a diverse and successful group of businesses in the greater Raleigh area.” said Harvey Schmitt, Chamber President and CEO. “It’s companies like those receiving the Pinnacle Business Awards that help put Raleigh on the map as one of the top business climates in the country.”
Anna’s Gourmet Goodies was originally incorporated in 2001 by Chris and Debbie Duke. Chris was working full time at SciQuest and Debbie stayed home to raise their daughter and the business namesake, Anna. The business began after Chris won a Cheesecake Bakeoff contest at work with an original recipe for Apple Bourbon Cheesecake.
Initially, the business sold desserts wholesale to local restaurants. In 2003, Chris left full time employment to build the business and in 2004, Anna’s Gourmet Goodies began baking and selling cookies and brownies as gifts through their online store.
Today, Anna’s Gourmet Goodies makes, bakes and ships cookies and brownies as personal and corporate gifts throughout the United States and to Military bases around the globe. They provide customized branding for corporate clients, as well as managed gift services.
