Camden Military Academy Cadet John Sparks, class of 2013, signs commitment letter to play basketball at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Camden, SC (PRWEB) June 20, 2013

Camden Military Academy Cadet John Sparks, class of 2013, recently signed a commitment letter to play basketball at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Starks credits his father, John Starks Sr., with teaching him the game of basketball, “my dad has taught me everything about this game. He has been teaching and coaching me since he put the ball in my hands.”

Cadet Starks is a six-foot, 185-pound native of Katy Texas, a Houston suburb. Starks previously attended James E. Katy Taylor High School where he was a 2012 honor graduate. After graduation, he began searching for a post-graduate program where he could not only continue his basketball career but work to raise his already above average SAT scores all the while attempting to land a college scholarship to a Division I school. Starks searched for the right school and Camden Military Academy was the choice.

Since John Starks arrived on the Camden, South Carolina campus at the start of the 2013 academic year, he has received numerous academic, military and athletic honors. Starks was voted team captain at the start of the season by his fellow teammates. He has also risen quickly in the Corps of Cadets to the status of Second Lieutenant. Starks speaks very highly of his experience at Camden Military Academy, “I love CMA. The coaches, campus, the teammates, the corps…the whole atmosphere at Camden is fantastic!” He goes on to state that CMA has given him the foundation to be a successful naval officer by building his confidence and teaching him invaluable leadership skills. “Academically, CMA helped me get into my first choice college,” says Starks. He has chosen to attend the Naval Academy over several other Division I schools.

“He is smart and very respectful. His work ethic is unparalleled and he has become a leader on and off the court. We are all very proud of him,” says Will Rice, CMA athletic director.

Headmaster Eric Boland predicts: “Second Lieutenant Starks will be a success story while at Annapolis and beyond.”
