Kristin Luck of Decipher, a comprehensive market research services firm, received the Marketing Research Association’s 2013 Impact Award today. The award was given at the opening ceremony for the MRA’s 2013 Insights and Strategies Conference in Orlando. The annual award program recognizes industry professionals who demonstrate “tremendous vision, leadership, and innovation, within the past year, that has led to advances in the marketing research profession.”
“The MRA Awards committee selected Kristin for this award for many reasons, but one that stood out was her tireless work in promoting women in the marketing research industry,” said Lisa Lockwood, director of development for the MRA. “She founded the Women in Research group to help women network and mentor one another, and it has experienced growth and reach in the past year that is unprecedented. We know that this has had a positive impact on our industry.”
Luck founded WIRe (Women in Research) to help women in their pursuit of leadership, entrepreneurship and career development goals. WIRe began as a group of less than 20 women in Los Angeles to a group of several hundred members spanning the globe. WIRe enjoys a diverse membership of seasoned professionals and Luck developed a mentoring program that matches them with women new(er) to market research. She also spearheaded a study last year that explored gender and diversity in the workplace, focusing specifically on this phenomenon within the marketing research industry.
Earlier this year, Luck was named as a 2013 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by the Portland Business Journal in Oregon and received a Ginny Valentine Badge of Courage for “Fearlessly Advocating Gender Equality.” Last year, Luck received two International Stevie Awards for Women in Business in the “Female Executive of the Year” and “Women Helping Women” categories.
The MRA Awards recognize those who exemplify outstanding professionalism and show extraordinary commitment to marketing research in four categories: Meritorious Service to Marketing Research; Impact Award; Honorary Lifetime Membership Award; and Volunteer of the Year Award. The Impact Award was last given in 2005.
