Abington, PA (PRWEB) June 13, 2013
The Neurosciences Institute at Abington Memorial Hospital recently opened the Multiple Sclerosis Center to diagnose, treat and improve the overall quality of life of those affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
The Multiple Sclerosis Center at the Neurosciences Institute is the only Center of its kind in Montgomery County and combines the expertise of neurologists, neurosurgeons, ophthalmologists, pain management specialists, psychiatrists and urologists with specialists in pharmacy and neuropsychology, physical and occupational therapy, vestibular therapy and speech pathology.
"Our vision for the Center is to enhance continuity of care in addition to primary treatment of the disease,” says Lee Harris, MD, chief Neurology Division and associate director of the Neurosciences Institute. “Our new Center gives us the ability to offer high-quality care to MS patients who require a wide range of services.”
MS is an autoimmune disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord. Characterized by recurrent episodes of neurological symptoms including blurry and double vision, numbness, weakness of the arms and legs, and difficulty walking, MS often progresses to irreversible neurological disability. It is the most common disabling neurological disorder affecting young adults.
The Multiple Sclerosis Center is staffed by three board-certified neurologists and a registered nurse with expertise in MS who work with patients and their family members to diagnose and manage MS to improve their patients’ overall quality of life.
These specialists have the experience and tools needed to diagnose, manage and provide comprehensive care for MS patients. Multidisciplinary care includes access to the latest developments in diagnosis and treatment, including sophisticated radiology and neurophysiology testing, rehabilitation services, a variety of oral and injectable treatment options, as well as access to clinical trials of new and investigational agents to treat the disease.
The Multiple Sclerosis Center is conveniently located at Abington Health Center – Warminster, in Suite 204, Stein Medical Office Building, Newtown Road, Warminster, PA. For more information, visit http://www.amh.org/brain or call 215-441-6741.
