Muncie, IN (PRWEB) June 17, 2013
The Academy of Model Aeronautics is pleased to announce that more than 100 AMA chartered clubs have registered to participate in the first National Model Aviation Day on August 17, 2013.
This event was established by AMA to celebrate the history of model aviation and to promote the hobby on a national scale. Each of the Academy’s 2,400 chartered clubs has been invited to participate and hold its own community event to highlight the thrills of model aviation, and show the public the educational benefits of model aviation.
Each participating club will also raise money to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. This organization aims to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
A total of 117 AMA chartered clubs have registered to participate and host local events, and dozens more are expected to sign up before the August 1 deadline. A participant map and information on events can be found on http://www.nationalmodelaviationday.org.
The Academy will host a National Model Aviation Day event at its headquarters in Muncie IN as well. This event will feature two air shows, free admission to the National Model Aviation Museum, and hands-on activities. Spectators will have access to two on-site events hosted by the Hoosier Dawn Patrol and the Mid-Indiana Society of Thermalers club, a local RC sailplane club.
The Academy of Model Aeronautics was established in 1936 as the nation’s collective voice for modelers across the country. Today, the Academy represents approximately 155,000 members. More information can be found at http://www.modelaircraft.org.
