Most people visit Edmonton and head straight for the West Edmonton Mall, North America’s largest mall. While there is lots to see and do there, it really isn’t the best place to be on warm August days. Believe it or not, Edmonton has many other fantastic tourist attractions – one of which is the International Fringe Festival.
CRX encourages Canadians and Americans to pack up their vehicles and head to the capital of Alberta and the province’s second-largest city. From August 15-25 this city will be hosting their annual International Fringe Festival. It is now in its 32nd year and is sure to draw people from all walks of life.
This year’s theme is: “A Festival shaken, not stirred: From Fringe with Love” – and is showcasing the 50 years that the James Bond movies have been in existence. The festival caters to everyone as it has children’s activities, vendors selling artisan goods, amazing acts and of course, theatrical performances.
Some of the local companies performing include: Ad Hoc Theatre, Audius Omillias, Blue Sky Theatre Emporium, C2 Productions, Cross Line Theatre, Forces of Chaos, Heart and Soul Productions, Our Other Day Job, Rapid Fire Theatre and Viva Dance.
There are many international companies scheduled to perform. Some of these include: Better to Burnout/Tim C. Murphy, Gemma Wilcox, Kimberly Dark, Rocket Sugar Factory, Steve Larkin, The Wandering Theatre Company, UK comedymonkey and Zigota.
Younger audiences will enjoy shows performed by Erik de Waal, Kaybridge Puppets, Mofa Theatre, Promise Productions, Rapid Fire Theatre, Sisterscene and Toy Boat.
It’s important to book car and hotel reservations in advance. The Fringe Festival is extremely popular and things fill up fast.
