Swing-N-Slide, America’s first do-it-yourself wooden play set manufacturer, believes children of all abilities should be able to participate in backyard play. The many benefits that come with outdoor activities are too important to ignore. To ensure play opportunities for all children, the company has partnered with AblePlay to review and provide ratings on popular playsets and accessories to offer parents and caregivers a guide for selecting a backyard playset for children with special needs. Developed by the National Lekotek Center, the leading non-profit authority on play for children with disabilities, AblePlay connects parents and the professionals who work with them to appropriate and innovative products from the traditional marketplace.

The AblePlay review system evaluates products using four disability categories: communicative, sensory, cognitive and physical to provide a snapshot of the product’s appropriateness for children with disabilities. Based on the features of the playset or play accessory being rated, AblePlay independently evaluated and assess the product using their 5-star rating system.

Many of Swing-N-Slide’s most popular residential playsets and swings have been currently evaluated and AblePlay rated. Most recently, the Adaptive Swing Seat was launched to offer a different type of residential play experience from a standard swing. This adaptive seat looks like a roller coaster featuring a bar that lifts for easy entrance and locks into place for added security while in use. The swing provides neck, back, shoulder and waist support so children can maintain a neutral body position and enjoy the many developmental benefits of swinging. This new adaptive residential seat is also included with the Adaptive Swing Set Kit featuring a second heavy duty swing seat for additional play opportunities. The Adaptive Swing Seat earned a 4 star rating in all of AblePlay’s disability categories.
