Three graduates will be honored with prestigious Vista College graduate awards at commencement ceremonies. The New Horizon Award is given to one student representing individual education fields for demonstrating leadership during his or her study and involvement in the community. The Vista Summit Award recognizes graduates who have gone on to be successful within their community and field of study. The Student of the Year Award is the top honor among the graduating class. The recipients are as follows:

Reuben Barela Jr. - New Horizon Award for HVAC –Barela, of Dona Ana, described by his professors as one who shows great dedication and leadership, is currently a maintenance mechanic at a local hospital, where he has worked for 14 years. He says that Vista College inspired him to pursue his education even further with hopes of becoming a business owner in the near future.

Larry Guyot - Vista Summit Award – Guyot, of Las Cruces, entered Vista College in 2010 after serving in the Army, working as a deputy sheriff and with a private security company in Iraq. After the death of his wife in a motorcycle accident, he knew wanted to continue serving people, but in a different capacity, so he enrolled in the Medical Assistant program. While attending Vista he endured more hardship with the passing of his son, but he continued to persevere to achieve his goal, pushing himself even harder. Described as kind and thoughtful by his professors, Guyot always put others first. He arranged study groups and started a “Scrub Club” to help other students who were in need of uniforms but could not afford them. After graduating as the valedictorian of his class, Guyot was hired by Covenant Urgent Care, where he says he loves what he does and receives praise from his employers as a self-motivated, dedicated, and trustworthy employee.

Laura Bosserman - Student of the Year – Bosserman, of Las Cruces, is graduating with a Diploma of Business Administration. Her instructors refer to her as more than the ideal student who has developed into an outstanding community professional. While at Vista, she participated in many academic activities including National Honor Society as well as the Vista College Chamber of Commerce. She was also a vital part of Vista’s Business Clinic Project, where she served as an operations manager of a student-run business, leading other students. Due to her exceptional performance, Bosserman has been selected by Jack Key Auto Group to be a part of a new business division within their company called BDC.
