The Levy County Detention Bureau will soon launch a new inmate visitation system. The new software, provided by Minneapolis-based Renovo Software, is intended to reduce costs by increasing the efficiency and security of visitation. Instead of waiting in line for first-come, first-served visits—sometimes only to be turned away if an inmate is not available—inmates’ family and friends will now be able to go online to register and schedule visits in advance. Visitors can schedule visits online at http://visitation.levyso.com.
“The new system will improve safety and security measures for both our staff and the inmate population,” stated Colonel Sheffield of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. “Video monitors allow inmates to speak with visitors without having to leave their housing units, so our officers will no longer have to escort inmates for visitation,” Colonel Sheffield explained. Keeping inmates in their housing units helps keep contraband out and avoids safety risks for both the officers and the inmates. “This is going to reduce risk and help to save us time and resources.”
Studies have also shown a correlation between inmate visitation and reducing recidivism. Eliminating barriers in the visitation process helps inmates stay connected with loved ones, and correctional facilities like the Levy County Detention Bureau are taking advantage of systems like this to do just that.
The video visitation system chosen by Levy County officials is the most widely-used video visitation platform in North America. According to Brian Peters, Director of Customer Accounts for Renovo Software, “It is designed to allow correctional facilities like the Levy County Detention Bureau to configure it with their own unique policies and procedures.”
The same system is also in use at some of the largest facilities in the country. “No two jails or prisons are alike,” stated Peters, “but the corrections industry requires tight control over anything involving the public.” In addition, Levy will be able to adopt new visitation methods and technologies as they see fit. Internet visitation (a.k.a. at-home or remote visitation), secure inmate email, and revenue generation are all features that the Levy County Detention Bureau can add later if they choose.
Officials at Levy County implemented the new visitation system to make visitations safer, less chaotic, and more manageable for officers, inmates, and family and friends. “The public will have an easier process for visiting inmates; and as management, if we can improve security and reduce the need for manpower through visitation, we consider it a success,” said Colonel Sheffield.
Renovo Software’s visitation management and video visitation solution has been a tool for both large and small correctional facilities to improve visitation and cut costs for almost a decade. With over 100 customers across North America, Renovo continues to introduce next generation features and functionality. Whether a jail or prison offers on-premise video visits, internet video visits or simply online scheduling and managing of face-to-face visits, Renovo’s system is a proven solution to improving
