The response to our 'Art Effect' event was so strong, we’re going to do it every year. It's an amazing way to spotlight New Jersey's most talented young artists.

The paintings, sketches, and digital photography of six northern New Jersey teens were winners at the "Art Effect" Bergen County high school art competition, which was held on Friday, May 31 at One River Gallery in Englewood, NJ.

50 students were selected from Tenafly High School, Dwight Englewood High School, Cresskill High School, and the Northern Valley High Schools of Old Tappan and Demarest to have their works exhibited at the Gallery. The jurors who judged the entries were Clint Jukkala, the Associate Professor of Painting/Printmaking and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Yale University; and John J. O’Connor, who teaches art and art history at Pratt Institute, Princeton University, and Sarah Lawrence College.

“I’m really impressed by the amazing works that students at our local high schools are creating,” says Matt Ross, founder of One River. “It’s a testimony to the schools’ staffs, the students themselves, and the supportive parents who value the visual arts and are inspired by the process of creativity.”

The following students were the competition’s winners:
